White Oak/Quarter Sawn Treadle Sewing Table base Table

$275.00

This side table has a treadle sewing table base made by Singer. These types of sewing machines were foot operated and were manufactured between the mid 1800s and the early 1950s. This particular base has more Victorian style so it is at least from the 1920s which puts it around 100 years old. The sewing table base was aquired from an auction held in Michigan. The quarter sawn white oak top came from an antique table from an estate sale, also in Michigan. I repurposed the table by removing the top. From the look of the milling marks, saw and other carpentry marks, I estimate the table top to be around 100 years old as well.

I cleaned the treadle base thoroughly as it had many layers of grease wax and soot. I address some of the heavy rust on the treadle with a good amount of sanding and wire brushing. I then primed the area with Rustoleum rust converting paint and top coated with a couple coats of mat finish clear. I did not want to lose the beautiful patina on the other areas of the base but did want to keep the rust from taking over so I did some spot coats of the clear to keep the rust in check.

The table top is a really nice piece of quarter-sawn white oak. I stained it with a chestnut colored stain. I wanted the top to maintain an old look without much sheen. So, I put two coats of an antique wipe on polyurethane that will protect the wood finish with a low sheen and antique look.

I think the piece came together really well. It is a great conversation piece and will look great and add to any decor.

Table dimensions are 28” tall x 38” long x 17 1/2” wide.
